About
The story of Chippy the Squirrel began in the Coury household. Maureen Coury, the mother, told all her children that when they lost a tooth, Chippy the Squirrel would come and give them a dime. Gradually, it turned into a dollar a tooth and Chippy soon became as popular as Santa among the Coury kids!
The story of Chippy the Squirrel began to evolve even further to include instances of character development. For example, Maureen came up with ways to show and teach Generosity to her young children. When one of her children had a tooth come out, she expanded the story about Chippy the squirrel:
One day when Chippy was in the park, he found some quarters and did not know who they belonged to. He wanted to find a way to give them back to the children who lost them. So he began telling the children when they lost a tooth to put it under their pillow and he would replace it with a quarter. As they woke up in the morning, they would see the generosity of Chippy as he replaced the tooth with the gift of a quarter.
This was a great hit with her children and she began to see this as a great help in planting the seeds of good character in her children. When the Coury kids got older, they joined their mother in making up stories about Chippy and eventually turned Chippy into a story-teller himself.
The oldest Son, Matthew came up with the idea of creating a wholesome family animated character series of DVD’s. He titled it Character Tales. All of the stories involve interesting and humorous tales about how these characters relate to one another with words, actions, and attitudes that portray good and poor character.
The Creators of Character Tales, Gerald and Maureen Coury, have four children and live in Oklahoma City. The Coury family has been involved in helping individuals, families, and organizations in the development of good character since the early 1990’s. As is in any family, their own relationships, challenges, and victories have been very useful in bringing real life experiences to the series that others can relate to and understand the importance of treating others in ways that will benefit everyone.
“Character Tales is our way to encourage others to build strong Christian Character in their lives. We really hope that you and your families enjoy spending time with each other watching our movies. This is our family’s vision that we bring to your household to bring your family closer together and closer to God.
Thank You and God Bless, ”
